Coming Next Month: December

December Gives Us Many Movie Christmas Presents, While Music Goes Into Hibernation

By Jeff Feuerhaken

It happens every year: the temperature drops, the leaves fall, the snow falls (unless you live in California like me), and the film awards contenders begin to populate the theater screens. As 2016 comes to a close, we can look back on many of the hits and misses of the films of this last year. Will we see any of those battling it out for Oscar gold? Or will it be like most years, where 90% on the contenders are released just at the year’s deadline. Some of the early buzz this year has been surrounding La La Land, a modern musical starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone and Fences, a race relations flick starring my man Denzel Washington. Besides these December releases, there seems to be little consensus as to who will be taking home the statues. On the geekier, blockbusterier side of things, we’ll be getting Passengers, a high-concept sci-fi starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, the long awaited Assassin’s Creed movie, starring Michael Fassbender, and the first standalone Star Wars story, Rogue One. In music news…well, there isn’t any. Moving on to 2017!
